Continue ReadingCollaboration and tailored strategies can make all the difference in improving the quality of life for NDIS participants. Let’s dive into the inspiring story of Jacinta, an individual with behaviors of concern, and how a collaborative effort between Everyday Independence’s Advanced Behaviour Support Practitioner, Ivane, and Aruma’s Shared Living Manager, Shannon, led to transformative results.
Join Ivane and Shannon as they discuss life-changing behaviour support strategies, and how collaboration and training led to transformative results in participant, Jacinta.
Jacinta is a NDIS participant and resident of an Aruma Supported Independent Living accommodation with behaviours of concern and restrictive practices in place to ensure her safety. Shannon, Aruma Shared Living Manager recognised the need for a holistic approach to better support Jacinta and referred her to Everyday Independence for positive behaviour support services. Advanced Behaviour Support Practitioner, Ivane quickly got to know Jacinta and developed behavior support strategies that would not only address Jacinta’s behaviors but also enhance her overall well-being.
The first step in Jacinta’s journey was building her confidence and helping her develop a set of values and boundaries leading to a safer living environment. Ivane worked closely with Jacinta, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-awareness that would guide her interactions and decisions.
Next, a tailored Behavior Support Plan (BSP) was crafted specifically for Jacinta’s unique needs and circumstances. This plan outlined proactive strategies for Jacinta and her support team to reduce challenging behaviors and promote positive alternatives.
A crucial aspect of this collaborative effort was training the team members at Aruma’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) accommodation on implementing the strategies outlined in the BSP. Ivane’s expertise and guidance were instrumental in equipping the SIL team with the skills and confidence needed to support Jacinta effectively.
Monthly reflective sessions further enriched this process, allowing the Aruma team to share their learnings, discuss progress, and fine-tune their approach based on real-time feedback and insights.
The implementation of these strategies brought about significant improvements in Jacinta’s quality of life. By addressing her behaviours in a proactive and person-centered manner, Jacinta experienced enhanced well-being and a greater sense of herself and how she wanted to live day-to-day.
Moreover, the collaborative efforts between Ivane and Sharon empowered the Aruma SIL team, providing them with valuable skills and knowledge that translated into more effective support for Jacinta and other participants.
