Continue readingMeet Sarah, a vibrant six-year-old with a passion for creative play and dressing up in her favourite dresses, tiaras, and crowns. Despite her joyful spirit, Sarah faced challenges with everyday tasks and managing her emotions. Her family sought support from Everyday Independence for early childhood supports (early childhood intervention services) to help her build independence and enhance her social skills.
Early childhood key worker Cassandra teamed up with Sarah’s family to understand their goals and craft a tailored approach. Recognising Sarah’s struggles with expressing herself and her use of challenging behaviours, Cassandra brought in Behaviour Support Practitioner Shelby to help address these issues.
Sarah was able to access behaviour support services with her current NDIS Improved Daily Living funds via our new suite of Behaviour Support Programs for Improved Daily Living.
Shelby discovered that Sarah’s difficulties were closely linked to her sleep patterns. Sarah and her mum were co-sleeping, which led to disrupted sleep for both. With Shelby’s guidance, Sarah’s parents explored solutions. They decided to help Sarah transition to her own “big girl bed,” letting her pick out bedding and redecorate her room.
This small change made a huge impact—Sarah has now slept independently for the past five weeks! Better sleep habits make it easier for Sarah to manage her emotions and self-regulate. Her family and Shelby are thrilled with this significant step toward Sarah’s independence.
