The Everyday Way to Positive Change
Transforming Lives With Community Based Therapy
At Everyday Independence, we deliver therapy in everyday environments to help people achieve more with their NDIS funding.
Providing community-based occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, early childhood supports, positive behaviour support, developmental education and habit coaching is part of our Everyday Way approach to providing therapy. It empowers individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling and meaningful lives as active participants of their communities.
The Benefits of Community-Based Therapy in Everyday Environments
Evidence suggests that therapy can be more effective when it fits into daily life. Instead of feeling like a separate, isolated activity, it becomes a natural part of an individual’s routine, helping build their skills in real-life situations. This approach also enables their family, carers and broader support network to get involved and build their capacity to help the individual achieve their goals.
We provide all our services – occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, early childhood supports, positive behaviour support, developmental education and habit coaching in the places children and adults spend their time.
Here’s why therapy delivered in everyday life is so impactful:
- Learn Skills Where They’ll be Used – learning skills in the environments where they’ll actually be used, like at school, at home, in shopping centers, or at work helps embed learning and ensures those skills are practical and functional.
- You Can Make Faster Progress – when therapy happens in real life settings, you can practice new skills right away. For example, a teenager can practice their new communication and social skills at home or with their friends and teachers at school in between, and during therapy sessions.
- Families and Carers Are Included – therapy isn’t just for the individual – it includes everyone who supports them. Therapists can teach families and carers how to make everyday moments into therapeutic moments. This helps everyone feel more confident and able to support progress.
- Removing Barriers to Achieving Goals – when therapy is delivered in everyday environments, our therapists and practitioners can identify barriers holding the person back from achieving their goals.
Real-Life Examples of Everyday Therapy
Here are some examples of how everyday therapy works:
- Building Motor Skills: A child climbing and running at the park during an early childhood supports therapy session learns coordination and strength in a fun way. This is more engaging than doing exercises in a clinic and helps them get ready for school-based play.
- Improving Communication: A teenager practicing conversation skills while ordering food at a café gains confidence using new phrases in a real-world setting. The positive interactions with staff and peers make learning practical, and their friends can support and celebrate their progress.
- Gaining Independence: During a developmental education session, a young adult can practice social interactions and daily living skills in their workplace. They develop the confidence and independence needed to navigate real-world situations and transition successfully into adulthood.
How We Support Positive Change
At Everyday Independence, we believe therapy should fit into your life, not the other way around. That’s why we work with NDIS participants in the places that matter most – home, work, school or community.
We integrate therapy into your daily life, helping you build life-changing skills, boost your confidence, and create lasting improvements. Together, we transform everyday moments into opportunities to enhance your independence, participation, and well-being
