Continue ReadingStrong evidence shows that exercise and an active lifestyle have long- and short-term benefits on physical and mental health and wellbeing. This is particularly important for people living with disability, who so often have limited opportunities to participate fully in their community.
Often people associate the benefits of physiotherapy with those who have sustained physical injury. However, it’s beneficial for people with physical and non-physical conditions to help achieve better physical and mental well-being. This includes people with:
For some, this could be participating in a physical activity like a sport, learning to ride a bike or attending an event. For others, it may be going to a café to meet friends or enjoying a family meal at the table. Our Physios focus on the person and their interests, so they build their skills and confidence in the things and places that bring them meaning and connectedness.
This is done as part of an interdisciplinary team, which means that our practitioners draw on the skills and expertise of other Everyday Independence therapists as and when needed. The team work together to champion the person, inspire their belief, and help them achieve their full potential with the right support around them.
Assistive technology (AT) includes products, systems, devices, and technologies used by people with disability to achieve greater independence, reduce support needs and increase participation in their community.
Our Physiotherapists work closely with the individual and their support network to get the right fit for their activities and environments. They assess the person’s abilities and challenges, trial different options, and write a report to request the required NDIS funding for the recommended technology. They also provide training and support to ensure the person can use the technology safely and appropriately.
