About Everyday Independence
With over 40 hubs across Australia, Everyday Independence is a dynamic allied health organisation committed to changing the game for people with disabilities. Working in the social model, our united team of talented change-makers is on a mission to make inclusion possible for all Australians.
About The Role
As a Developmental Educator at Everyday Independence, no two days will be the same. If you were here last week, these are some of the things you may have done:
- Work alongside participants and their key supports to develop new skills and habits. Problem-solve challenges that prevent participants from living fulfilled lives.
- Champion the role of a social model practitioner by helping people overcome barriers that keep them from engaging with their local community and the wider world. You won’t do this alone—you’ll work with the support of an interdisciplinary team and habit coaches (allied health assistants).
- Use evidence-based practice and professional reasoning to recommend the most appropriate team of supports, therapy, duration, location, and timing. Develop effective and strong working relationships with people and their families, identifying and addressing factors that may affect relationships, and repairing breakdowns in a timely manner.
- Enhance people’s capacity to make their own life choices and increase their independence. Approach risk positively to achieve quality-of-life outcomes, while ensuring safeguards are in place to protect the rights and well-being of the most vulnerable.
- Conducted an initial assessment using our LEAD evidence-based assessment tool
- Liaised with the interdisciplinary team to wrap the right supports around the participant and their family
- Supported a person in their everyday environment – home, work, school or community
- Capacity building of their support team to provide a capable environment
- Attended peer group supervision/mentoring and professional learning to help grow your expertise and skills
- Participated in a weekly team meeting and shared a story of impact
- Completed reflective practice to develop evidence-based plans
- Shared a joke and a laugh with colleagues and maybe attended a hub social event
