From communicating your needs, making choices, and having more control over your life, expect our team to help you do the things you want, your way.

At Everyday Independence, we provide NDIS positive behaviour support across Western Melbourne to reduce challenging behaviours and improve quality of life. Our behaviour support practitioners work in your community, bringing compassion, experience, and a team-based approach to support real, long-term change.

Why Choose our Behaviour Support in Western Melbourne?

We understand that behaviours of concern happen for a reason. That’s why our Western Melbourne-based behaviour support practitioners focus on understanding the whole person — their environment, communication, goals, and support network.

Your behaviour support practitioner collaborates with your therapy and support teams, and connects with community services, so you have the opportunities and resources to achieve your goals.

How Positive Behaviour Support Helps You Create Positive Change

Our NDIS-funded positive behaviour support services can help:

  • Build a better understanding of when and why behaviours of concern occur
  • Provide practical, everyday strategies to reduce challenging behaviours
  • Reduce or eliminate restrictive practices, enhancing dignity and access to the community
  • Strengthen the skills of family members and support network, ensuring a consistent, unified approach
  • Increase positive daily routines and connections within the community

Our Planning Process: Interim and Comprehensive Plans

If restrictive practices are currently in use, we’ll develop an Interim Behaviour Support Plan within 30 days. This initial plan prioritises safety and begins implementing proactive strategies to reduce restrictive interventions.Within six months, a Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan will be developed in collaboration with you, your support network, and your therapy team. This includes measurable goals, evidence-informed strategies, and clear steps for success.

Plans involving restrictive practices are submitted to your state’s Senior Practitioner for authorisation and are monitored by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

What are Restrive Practices?

Restrictive practices are any actions that limit a person’s rights or movement. These should only ever be used as a last resort. Under the NDIS, the following practices are regulated:

Our highly trained team is committed to reducing or eliminating restrictive practices, helping individuals regain their dignity, independence, and quality of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach that aims to understand the reasons behind behaviours of concern and replace them with positive, functional alternatives.

What is a Behaviour Support Plan?

The journey to enjoying more meaningful everyday life activities starts with a personalised Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan.

Our experienced NDIS behaviour support practitioners in Western Melbourne will collaborate with you and your trusted support team — including family members, support workers, and other therapists — to ensure everyone is working toward a unified goal: building your capacity and reducing behaviours of concern.

If unauthorised restrictive practices are in place, we’ll develop an Interim PBS plan within 30 days of their assessment. This plan is shared and regularly reviewed with your support network, ensuring consistent implementation.

Where a restrictive practice is used, the plan will be submitted to the relevant State or Territory’s Office of the Senior Practitioner for authorisation and to the NDIS Commission for monitoring, as required under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework.

Our team is here to support you and everyone around you to understand the plan and confidently apply it in day-to-day life.

When Should I Consider Behaviour Support Services?

Consider NDIS behaviour support services if you or someone you care for:

  • Is experiencing behaviours that are unexpected, unsafe, or distressing

  • Has difficulty communicating their needs

  • Is subject to restrictive practices

  • Needs additional support to participate in community or social activities

We’ll work with you and your supports to build capacity, promote positive experiences, and improve quality of life for everyone involved.

Who is positive behaviour support for?

We support children, teens, and adults with disability across Western Melbourne at home, school, work, or in the community.

What if I’m not yet an NDIS participant?

That’s okay! You can still access support.

If you’re experiencing challenges with behaviours but don’t yet have dedicated behaviour support funding in your NDIS plan, we may still be able to help.

Through your Improved Daily Living funding, people with moderate behavioural challenges who are already receiving another service from us — such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy, or early childhood supports — can join one of our four Improved Daily Living Programs.

These programs are available across Western Melbourne, and focus on:

  • Reducing behaviours of concern

  • Building healthy habits

  • Creating positive, supportive environments

  • Promoting greater independence in daily life

As a registered NDIS provider, we developed these programs to help people reduce challenging behaviours by creating supportive environments and building healthy habits.
