How does Behaviour Support for Improved Daily Living differ from Specialist Behaviour Support?
Specialist Behaviour Support
Specialist Behaviour Support provides tailored strategies for individuals with a disability who use major challenging behaviours and may have restrictive practices in place. These tailored strategies are designed to meet the unique needs of the individual while reducing and eventually eliminating the need for restrictive practices.
Behaviour Support for Improved Daily Living
Behaviour Support for Improved Daily Living applies the core principles of positive behaviour support to help individuals develop healthier habits and reduce challenging behaviours. The programs are designed to support people with moderate behaviours of concerns to achieve specific outcomes.
What are challenging behaviours and how can they stop me from reaching my potential?
Challenging behaviours in people with disabilities can significantly impact their quality of life in various ways. For example, you might find it hard to focus, follow routines, or control your reactions. These behaviours can stop you from learning new things, connecting with others or enjoying your day. Our programs helps you manage these behaviours so you can grow and live a better quality of life.
How does the Behaviour Support Practitioner work with the broader therapy team and my support network?
Our Behaviour Support Practitioners work with your therapy team (like your Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist) and the people who support you (like your family or carers). We all work together to help you, and make sure everyone is using the same strategies, so you get consistent support in all areas of your life.
Will I get a report on completion of these programs?
Yes, as with all our services a standard outcome report is delivered at your annual plan review, unless an early outcome review is specifically requested prior to this timeline. These programs are intervention focused to reduce behaviours of concerns and develop healthy habits within the eight-week session timeline.
A Positive Behaviour Profile is provided to you, your family and supports. The profile will provide individualised strategies to reduce challenging behaviours, including addressing influencing factors for these behaviours. You and your supports will be supported by your behaviour support practitioner to build capable environments that improve quality of life.
What are some examples of outcomes I can expect to achieve with this support?
With our support, you can expect to:
Feel more in control of your emotions and reactions.
Get better at doing daily activities and sticking to routines.
Improve your communication and ability to build positive relationships.
