Positive Change Push: Sutherland and South Eastern Sydney

Our social impact initiative, Positive Change Push, empowers team members to extend their impact and fund activities that promote inclusivity in our communities.

Change makers at hubs in South Eastern Sydney and Sutherland used their Positive Change Push funding to host an inclusive soccer clinic at the Wanderers Fives facility, owned by the Western Sydney Wanderers. The venue was the perfect environment for participants aged 5-12 years living with disability to enjoy a fun-filled day, kicking goals, learning new soccer skills and making friends.

On the inspiration behind their event, hub and project lead Alex said, “We felt it was important to help kids feel included in sports, as well as enjoy the benefits it provides socially, physically and emotionally.

One of the kids said to our therapists that it was the best day they ever had!”

Reflecting on the success of the event, Alex recalled the joy he felt as he watched participants immerse themselves in the various activities and relish every moment of the experience.

The day went well, all the kids felt included and thoroughly enjoyed their time. We also got to see some kids who were initially uncomfortable get involved, which was such a positive outcome.

Coaches from the Western Sydney Wanderers joined in to help build the kids’ confidence and to make sure that they all scored their goals with smiles on their faces.

Refreshments and pre-prepared goodie bags were also provided to the soccer stars, so no one left empty-handed!
