Continue readingWhen Bradley began therapy, he struggled significantly with personal hygiene, especially when it came to washing his clothes. These difficulties disrupted his daily routine and added stress to managing his overall hygiene.
Bradley was supported by Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, Courtney, who worked with him to gradually build his tolerance and ability to cope with washing his clothes. It started with washing small clothing items together, slowly building up over time. This incremental approach helped Bradley feel supported and more comfortable completing the activity.
Courtney also encouraged Bradley to associate this activity with positive experiences which helped reduce the stress he’d previously associated with washing his clothes.
To further build on these skills, a habit coach is now being introduced into Bradley’s therapy team to practice and reinforce what he has learned, gradually introducing new steps to help him enhance his daily life skills. This tailored support is designed to empower Bradley and guide him toward greater confidence in managing everyday tasks.
With the combined efforts of Courtney, the wider positive behaviour support team, habit coach, and his support workers, Bradley is making steady progress in developing his personal hygiene routines, with a clear plan to achieve even greater independence.
Habit Coaches are available exclusively to our NDIS participants who receive occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, early childhood or positive behaviour support services.
